Our Story

How did a working farm become a destination for weddings, events, and a market?

Iron Horse Farm was founded in 1970 by Arkansas business icon William Darby as a premiere equestrian center in the state. Darby Downs was a location to train and breed racehorses. The farm continued down the equine track for a number of years as Iron Horse Farm with winners on the state and national level.

The farm now focuses on raising cattle although you will still see horses on the grounds, mainly retired racers, barrel horses, or trail horses. During the COVID-19 lock down of 2020, the owner, Katharine Adams, her partner Jim Felton, and Katharine’s two daughters and their family pets relocated to the farm. It was during this time that the family began dreaming about the possibilities of Iron Horse and decided to expand its focus past cattle and horses. The ideas of Iron Horse as a marketplace and a party and wedding center were born.

We hope to continue growing our vision for this magnificent farm. Right now we have three focuses: a working farm, an event center, and a site for spring and fall markets. We hope you will visit Iron Horse Farm and enjoy it as much as we do!
